The CHANTS
Left,
the Chants entertain at a wedding, its was 1965 the group started as a rhythm
& blues group featuring the Rolling Stones & Easy beat hits with a touch
of surfing instrumentals. The group got its name from the Chanteys who had the
surf hit 'pipe line', a number Graham Street our drummer loved doing in which he
excelled.
From right to left Greg Allward on lead - Arthur Dobe on rhythm - Graham Street on Drums - Singer (cannot remember his name he was not with the group very long) - Graham Sully on base. Arthur Dobe & Graham Sully were both sheet metal apprentices at that time.
Grahams father Arthur Sully a Banyo fruiter and business man became the Chants manager and registered the group as a business. Sully as he was affectionately known made sure the group saved every penny earned and held bank accounts for each of its members.

Right, The Boys soon recruited Gary Howard a local Banyo boy who could sing in any key or range asked of him and this photo shows the Chants in 1966 at a recording studio cutting a demo record for a competition.
